Parbhani is a largely agricultural district nearly 76% of its people depend on farming for their livelihood. Yet, despite being located in the fertile Godavari River basin, the region faces low productivity and income. The average agricultural output is just ₹20,000 per hectare, and the annual household income is around ₹45,300. This reality makes Parbhani one of the poorest districts in both the state and the country.

About The Project

To address this challenge, SEDT launched the Affordable Farming Project with the support of the IEEE Pune Section. Over the past three years, we have worked with 1,000 farmers from six villages to promote more sustainable farming practices that improve income and productivity.

Our Aim

To work hand in hand with farmers and transform local farming systems  making agriculture more profitable, sustainable, and dignified for rural families.

Our Approach

Our efforts focus on capacity building, adoption of best practices, and hands-on learning. Together with farmers, we have:

  • Set up demonstration farms to showcase innovative techniques
  • Organized workshops and exhibitions for knowledge sharing
  • Built supply chains to connect farmers with better markets
  • Encouraged community collaboration and peer learning

All of this has been achieved through a limited budget but strong local participation, proving that change is possible when people work together.

  • Better marketing and use of technology

we are helping farmers increase productivity and income while protecting the environment.

Our scalable and sustainable model of integrated farming is already showing results  empowering farmers, improving livelihoods, and building hope for a stronger rural economy.
