Women hold a share of 50% of this demographic. Besides their reservations in local politics, women have always stayed behind in the family and society, which shows a systematic bias against women about access to primary resources such as education, health, and nutrition.

Our policy for this is “Development through women.” One of the main goals of SEDT’s actions has been to organize, empower and make women self-reliant. It ensures that we instill, develop and nurture leadership qualities among women. We can achieve this with our supporters at NABARD. In general, women don’t get the freedom they have the right to, so they remain behind the rest of our society. And besides several schemes for women’s development, the “status of women” has not changed in rural communities. This situation is unacceptable and should not be tolerated. Hence, we have planned a unique initiative to empower girls in all villages here.

We have identified a group of 40-50 girls in each village who will get our support and concentrated efforts to help them grow and reach new heights as empowered women as they should be. We have formed 1000+ SHGs in this area (with our supporters from NABARD). And are conducting several income generation activities for women because we know that empowering women may as well be just a dream without economic development. To help with the initiative, we have recently registered a farmers’ produce company – Sakhi Samruddhi F.P.Company exclusively for women. Moreover, group farming is one of the first projects this company is promoting. And soon, we will start marketing the produce from these programs on a larger scale across cities.

Need for Women Empowerment In rural India women have always been deprived from freedom of speech, expression, choice and opinion. Also in most of the rural areas they are deprived of their right to education. Since they are kept away from education they are generally not perceived to have any meaningful income generation capacity, and hence, they are relegated mainly to household duties and cheap labor. Women have always been the backbone of the agricultural community. However they have not received the desired recognition and dignity that they deserve. As they have no income in hand so have no power and their voices are silenced. Even in matters of sex and child bearing, women often do not have the ability to oppose the wishes of their men. Since women are always kept at bay no attention was ever given on their upliftment and empowerment ever.

Women Empowerment Program
The lack of exposure keeps women illiterate and unskilled; and denies the development of society. And so, we are trying to empower women with educating and training them with various interventions. We, at SEDT, have been working hard on women’s issues for more than 20+ yrs. We mainly aim at organizing, empowering and making women self-reliant. Empowering women is multi-faceted which involves generating income opportunity, bringing equality in society and implementing women rights. We strive to empower women by inculcating values such as self-esteem, leadership qualities, entrepreneurship etc.
